Este año, la BBC hizo una encuesta entre un grupo de 177 críticos alrededor del mundo para que determinaran cuáles eran las 100 mejores películas del siglo 21 para así determinar cuáles son los nuevos clásicos modernos. Luego de obtener los resultados, Mulholland Drive de David Lynch encabezó la lista, mientras que In the Mood For Love de Wong Kar-Wai quedó en la segunda plaza. Por su parte, Paul Thomas Anderson y los hermanos Coen tienen dos cintas en el Top 25.

Aunque la lista es fascinante, las estadísticas lo son aún más: los años 2012 y 2013 son los que tienen más películas incluidas en la lista, mientras que más de la mitad de los films son en inglés. Una cifra interesante: sólo 12 de las cintas del conteo fueron dirigidos por mujeres pese a que 31% de los críticos compartían su mismo género.
